Math for Week of 2/28

This week’s math includes the dreaded FINAL EXAM from our Geometry unit. It seems like we’ve been studying this stuff for half the year, so I would expect kids to do pretty well on it.  The test is tentatively planned for Tuesday (but it will likely be postponed to Wednesday). It will include questions about perimeter, area, surface area, and volume. Students need to be prepared to find the area of rectangles and triangles, the surface ares of rectangular and triangular prisms, and the volume of rectangular prisms. Note that these skills are a primary focal point of the 5th grade state test in math.  Speaking of prisms, here’s an easy ten bucks for someone’s classroom checkbook: just be the first person to report what shape is shown in the image.  Earn twenty bucks by measuring the shape with a centimeter ruler and calculating its surface area (note: you’ll need to right click on it and select view image to see it in full size).  Here’s the homework for this week: Monday, February 28th, Tuesday, March 1st, Wednesday, March 2nd, Thursday, March 3rd.  Also, congrats to the Supercalifragilistics, winners of our most recent Matheketball competition!
