23rd Annual Tree Plant

Last week was highlighted by the field trip to the Josephine County Tree Plant outside of Grants Pass. This was CPE’s 4th visit to the site where school kids annually plant tree seedlings as part of Jo County’s reforestation efforts. The goal of the project is to re-grow a native forest so that it can be managed for multiple uses in the future. CPE students have now planted about 2500 trees on the site. Because each student placed a metal stake and a name tag by one of their trees, they can return later and locate them. Check back soon for a gallery of photos representing the 2012 planting.

In class this week, 5th grade language arts students are taking their vocabulary exam on Wednesday, preparing to record the podcasts of their Black History Month plays, and posting their National Park Research Projects on their webpages. There’s no school on Friday the 17th (or next Monday, the 20th, which is President’s Day), so we have a lot to get done in a short period of time.

In math class, 4th grade students are taking their angles and protractors test on Thursday. They will continue to get a lot of practice all week. Here’s the homework for the week: Monday, Feb. 13th; Tuesday, Feb. 14th; Wednesday, Feb 15th. Also, congrats to Gavin Acrey for being the 4th grade Fact Car Rally Race Champion, which demonstrates his prowess at multiplication and division facts. Great job!

Finally, on Tuesday, February 28th, the 5th Graders will be playing the teachers in the 5th annual Family Fun Night Student vs. Staff Basketball Game. Fifth graders who wish to participate must be caught up with their work, have no more than one card change during the week prior, and have turned in a permission slip, which can be downloaded by clicking here.
