Crater Lake Trip is This Wednesday!

skylar-at-captain-jacksSpecial thanks to all the adults who joined us as chaperones for the Lava Beds trip. The kids saw first hand why Captain Jack and his Modoc people were able to hold off the Cavalry for five months, and where bad advice led Jack to murder General Canby. Students also got to explore fascinating caves such as Golden Dome, Hopkin’s Chocolate, and Indian Well. Stay tuned for an upcoming episode of CPETV for footage from the trip!

Next up is Crater Lake. Students will be hiking up The Watchman or Garfield Peak as they learn about the history of the lake and the Native American lore about its creation. (Note that in alternate years we study the geology of both the Lava Beds and Crater Lake). Uho, the forecast calls for chilly temps in the mid-30’s and occasional rain! Kids will need to dress in layers including with a real coat (not just a sweatshirt), wear sturdy shoes for hiking, and bring a sack lunch, healthy snacks, and water. Gloves and knit caps are encouraged as well. Regardless of the weather, Crater Lake is an amazing site, yet many of our students have never seen it before! If you’d like to join us as a chaperone, please let me know ASAP. Remember, state law requires that you have a volunteer application on file with the District before attending a trip. Thanks!
