Welcome back to class! I’ve been teaching for almost 30 years and that was the strangest and most frustrating first week I’ve every had. Let’s hope things go better from here! For those of you who didn’t watch it yesterday, be sure to scroll down and watch my video update for this week.

We have an interactive session in Google Classroom at 8:30. We’ll be doing our first Super Sentences activity. Also in Classroom (under the Classwork tab) you’ll find a checklist for the day, a reading log to record your minutes, and another awesome Storyworks article and quiz to do on your own. It’s about gecko tongues!

In math, we’re trying a different program called Happy Numbers. You log-in via Clever. Look for that dinosaur dude. Today you just have to take another pre-test (sorry). I still want you to use Acellus for math facts, and I’ll be giving out hefty rewards for kids who make progress! To review what we covered last week, I also have a homework sheet for you. If you don’t know how to do it, ask an adult for some coaching. You can also do a Google search for more help, or pester me via Classroom.

You Zoom groups appear in the post below this one. Groups Z and 4 meet at 9:30 today and Groups W and 7 meet at 10:30. I’ll post invitations in Classroom right before your meeting time.

You also have a history entry, Boy Part 4, and PE. For PE, try one of the videos posted on the PE page. These are all workouts last year’s 5th graders found on the web. (Given the air quality, make sure you choose an indoor workout.) You’ll be asked to tell me which one you tried on the PE & Reading Log in Classroom.

Finally, you need to select a chapter book you can read during the next two or three weeks. You can choose something off your own shelf, from the public library, or from CPE’s library. Visit the CPE webpage and click on the Library tab to get access.
