Super Sentences

Click on the “replies” link below to see last week’s Super Sentences. After three days of practice and feedback, each student was expected to write one perfect past-tense sentence to post here. The topic choices were unicorn bears, sardine sandwiches, and Legos. Students who had incorrect sentences were required to do a “sentence repair,” though you can still see a few errors, most resulting from the transition from paper to the Web.

Super Sentences for This Week

Last week, Room 15 students wrote Super Sentences containing an opinion. The topics were pigs with bad breath, traffic tickets, and tidal waves.  In my opinion, the kids’  sentences are as creative as a pig on a surfboard during a tsunami.  You can read their sentences by viewing the comments below.

Super Sentences for Last Week

Room 15 kids wrote sentences containing a fact. Facts could be real–found in encyclopedias and other sources. Or they could be made-up and disguised to look like real facts. Whatever the case, they had to follow the rules for a sentence containing a fact. See the comments below to read each student’s Super Sentence.

The Sentence Isn’t Dead!

In a world of texting, tweeting, and error-filled e-mails, it’s nice to know the basic sentence is alive and well at Central Point Elementary. CPE intermediate students work hard to craft a single “Super Sentence” every morning (in addition to all the other writing they do).  This exercise reinforces sentence basics, introduces them to new tools (such as semi-colons and hyphens), and teaches them new structures (such as idioms and indirect quotations).  Click on the comments below to read this week’s Super Sentences from Room 15.
