Baby Picture Show

Can You Guess this 5th Grader? Our annual Year-in-Review and 5th Grade Baby Picture Show is set for Thursday, June 7th, at 8:30 a.m.. To get you ready for the event, we challenge you to guess the identity of this baby. The first student reporting to me wins $100 for his or her classroom checkbook. Other year-end events include our Don Jones Park picnic on June 4th, Roadrunner Day on June 6th (including the student vs staff softball game and the Talent Show), and the last day of school on June 7th. Until then we’ll be trying to wrap up all our classroom assignments. We’ll no longer be sending home printed homework or assignment calendars, but in the classroom, the fourth grade math students will be trying their hands at long division. Instead of the traditional approach, we’ll be using math guru Marilyn Burns’ method, which can be viewed here. It’s kind of like divvying up a pot of money–first the hundreds, then the fifties, then the twenties, and so on until everybody has their fair share. I’ve found that most kids can learn this method much easier than the old-fashioned way. Speaking of our 4th graders, they took care of our final Adopt-a-Street Clean-up, collecting 52 pounds of trash along Hopkins Street. Great job!
