Outstanding!

Central Point Elementary has earned an “Outstanding” rating on the State of Oregon’s “School Report Card.” CPE was the only District 6 school to earn the State’s highest mark. The rating takes into consideration student performance, growth, and participation on standardized tests, as well as attendance (which is why we’re always hounding kids to come to class). Kudos to all the staff members and students who worked so hard over these last two years to earn this high mark!

Speaking of outstanding, our field trip to the Lava Beds National Monument was just that. After a three hour bus ride, our 150 fourth and fifth grade “gophers” disappeared into more than a dozen holes in the ground, only to reappear a few hours later for the bus ride home. We’re happy to report no injuries, no lost kids, and no shortage of exercise. Thank you to the brave souls who volunteered as chaperones, especially those who endured the long and sometimes noisy bus ride.

In class this week, students will be writing about their Lava Beds experience, adding to their webpages, fine-tuning their classroom plays, and preparing for Friday’s vocabulary exam. The words and definitions for the exam appear each student’s binder, but they can also be found here. Meanwhile, in math this week students will be wrapping up their study of multi-column subtraction. Their chapter exam will be next Tuesday, October 23rd. Here’s the homework for this week: Monday, Oct. 15th; Tuesday, Oct. 16th; Wednesday, Oct. 17th; Thursday, Oct. 18th.

Finally, don’t forget to get those Mini-Marathon registration forms completed and returned! The deadline to receive the t-shirt is this Thursday, Oct. 18th!
