Mini-Marathon Week

Marathoners from the 2008 eventThe 40th Sams Valley Mini-Marathon is this Friday. Over 600 District 6 4th and 5th grade students will be running, jogging, or walking the annual 5K event. CPE students have been training during their daily fitness runs. They’ll arrive at school on Friday morning and get their shirts and race tags, then head to SVE for the 9:30 race time. This is an amazing event. If you’ve never seen the Mini-Marathon, come out to watch or even jog the course with your kids. Special thanks to Dr. Ravassipour’s office for sponsoring the event. It means that every participant gets the 40th anniversary shirt for free. Thanks also to the PTO from each school for funding the remaining costs.

After the marathon, students will return to class in time for lunch and then have a celebratory electronics and PJ party in the afternoon. Kids are welcome to bring electronic devices and school-appropriate PJs to school that day, and parents are encouraged to send in chips or other snacks (but we want to go light on the sweets). It’s rare for us to watch movies in Room 15, but we’ll likely be watching some PG- or G-rated content on Friday.

In class, the primary items of focus include developing our play performances, starting new book Roald Dahl clubs, and continuing our study of place value and multi-column addition and subtraction. Now that the kids have a fresh foundation, we’ll be revisiting some of the better pieces of our new Engage New York math program (so be prepared). Here’s the math homework for this week: Monday, Oct. 27; Tuesday, Oct. 28; Wednesday, Oct. 29; Thursday, Oct. 30.
