Tree Week at CPE

treeplant thumbWith rain in the forecast for our trip this Thursday, I want to give you some info to make the trip more enjoyable. We planted during heavy rainfall last year. The kids who were prepared had a great time, while the kids who weren’t prepared suffered.
Shoes: If kids have mud boots, or some other kind of waterproof boot, that will be best. Regardless, they should bring a change of shoes and socks for when we get back to school.
Ponchos/Jackets: Waterproof jackets are ideal, but rain ponchos, even the Dollar Store kind, will work. Those who don’t will be offered leaf bags with holes cut out for the head and arms.
Gloves: If they’re water proof or water resistant, they’ll work. However, the kids will be digging in the soil, so you won’t want to send them with your best pair of ski gloves. Mittins are okay to keep warm, but tell them to take them off and put them in their pocket when actually planting (we’ll tell them the same thing on this end).
Clothes: Dress them in layers, but stick to old grubbies. Avoid cotton sweat pants. Kids who show up in shorts or without a jacket or coat won’t be allowed to attend the trip.
Sack lunches: If the weather dries up a bit, we’ll be stopping at Riverside Park for lunch. If it doesn’t, we’ll eat on the bus or when we get back to class. Either way, kids will need a sack lunch.
Umbrellas: For safety reasons, only adults may bring umbrellas.

Chaperones: We’re thankful for our adult chaperones! Although this trip may be a bit rough weather-wise, it’s still a great outing. We have attending Mrs.Bugarin, Mr. Qualls, Mr. Martin, Mr. Wood, Mr. Foster, Mr. Kilbane, and Mr. Liles. If we’re not on the same page, please let me know as soon as possible.

This week we’re also being visited by the Tree Lady, and, with any luck, planting adding a Douglas Fir to our collection of campus trees. On Friday we’ll be walking to Crater to watch the Dancing People perform at the PAC. In class we’re starting new plays–all about Early America and the American Revolution–and starting our Room 15 Floor Hockey Tourney, and on Friday we’ll be taking our vocabulary exam. Here’s the math homework for this week: Monday, Feb. 2; Tuesday, Feb. 3rd; Wednesday, Feb. 4; Thursday, Feb. 5th (none).
