Trash Battle

Our Adopt-a-Street Clean-up often looks more like an Easter egg hunt than a litter patrol. We split our class into small groups which compete to see who can collect the most garbage. Consequently, students such as Bryant here go all out trying to nab the biggest haul. In this case, one of our groups brought back ten pounds of refuse, while the class as a whole collected over thirty one! To see more photos of our effort to keep Hopkins Street clean, click here.

The students have been doing a great job in math. For the next two weeks they’ll be reviewing multi-digit addition and subtraction. Here’s the homework for this week: Monday, Oct. 1st; Tuesday, Oct. 2nd; Wednesday, Oct. 3rd; and Thursday, Oct. 4th.

The kids have also been doing a great job with their play parts. This week we’ll begin practicing for live performances, which are tentatively scheduled for around Halloween. For homework, students should review their own lines every night, including at least one night a week with an adult. Students should also be reading a “book of choice,” recording the title on their assignment calendar each evening. Students will also be starting a unit on bats, they’ll be re-writing their Roald Dahl Book Reviews (Yup, we struggled a bit on our first attempt), they’ll be developing their webpages, and more. Finally, the Jog-a-Thon is this Wednesday, and our Lava Beds trip is scheduled for October 11th.
