Lava Beds Trip on Thursday

The big event this week is our trip to the Lava Beds National Monument for some cave exploration. Kids have been learning a bit about bats and this week they’ll learn specifics about the volcanic activity that created the Lava Beds. Our buses leave precisely at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday. Kids will need a sack lunch, some snacks for the bus, and a bike helmet for head protection in the caves. They also need to dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Students will be in small groups of 5 or 6 with a parent-volunteer who has completed a volunteer application and criminal background check.

This week we’ll also be continuing our play rehearsals, presenting our book reviews (which will soon appear on the student webpages), and practicing multi-column subtraction. Here’s the math homework for this week: Monday, Oct.8; Tues., Oct.9; Wednesday, Oct.10. Because there is no school on Friday, there will be no homework on Thursday night. For reading, kids should be practicing their lines (with an adult at least once) and reading from a book of choice each night.
