Room 15 Update

The school year is just underway and we already have a ton of upcoming special events. Back-to-School Night is this Thursday, Sept 19th, from 6 to 7. I’ll be doing a brief presentation at 6, including talking about the importance of my students having e-mail addresses and online access at home. On September 27th we’re off on our annual excursion to Lava Beds National Monument as part of a study of geology, bats, and caves. Students took home permission slips and chaperone volunteer forms last week. we immediately turn around and head to MacGregor Park on the upper Rogue River on October 1st. And on Oct. 10th we’ll undertake our first Adopt-a-Street Clean-up of the year on Hopkins Street. We need adult chaperones for all these events, so be sure to complete the Volunteer Application.

In class this week students are studying their first set of vocabulary words. The emphasis is on decoding skills–understanding root words and affixes to make sense of new and unique words. The test will be some time next week. Students are also completing their first mini-Book Club and will be starting a new Book Club beginning Tuesday or Wednesday. in math, students are wrapping up Place Value and heading into a fast review of multi-digit addition and subtraction, while also studying multiplication facts. Here’s the homework for this week: Monday, Sept. 16th; Tuesday, Sept. 17th; Wednesday, Sept. 18th; Thursday, Sept. 19th.

  1. Hey Mr. Lewis, just checking in on your new school year and wondering how you are doing. My school year so far is great. I’m on the Gold Side and my teachers are:Mr. Vegos for math,Mrs. Pickering for language arts,Mrs. Bones for science,Mrs. Carrigan for P.E.,and Mr. Johannes for social studies and academic lab. I have joined art club. And guitar class with Mr. Foster. I miss being in the fifth grade with you. I get picked on for being small. But the older kids I knew came to my “rescue.” Rayna has changed but I see the others and they haven’t changed a bit.

I hope to see you again soon.

I will always be your Rotter,
    Emily Hawkins

  2. Hey Macklemore!
I hope you haven’t forgot about me! I wanted to come and visit you but we get into school around the same time that CPE does and we get out later, plus on top of that I have volleyball practice, but no it doesn’t end there, we have a lot more homework than what we did at CPE, we have seven classes a day and sometimes we have homework for almost every subject!
I like St.Mary’s a lot. I have a ton of new friends that have a bunch of stuff in common with me, so we get along perfectly! My teachers are so nice, especially my religion teacher, and we get chocolate every Friday! Volleyball isn’t that bad because most of my friends are on the volleyball team. I play for the seventh grade team, but all the sixth graders play for the seventh grade team.
I still see Paige everyday. I spend some of my breaks with Paige, and other times reading.
I will try to visit you when I can.
    sincerely,
    TaylorRose

  3. Forget about you? How could I ever forget about you? Glad St. Mary’s is treating you well. I knew it was going to be good. Yes, do come visit. I miss all my old Room 15 Rotters a ton! I know there are a couple days when St. Mary’s doesn’t have school and we do, so that would be perfect!

On the last day when we dress up in school colors their is a lipsink and I am the only girl in an all boys group. So I was wondering if you wanted to come and we’re singing Moves Like Jagger!
