Room 15 Update

Room 15 kids have their first Adopt-a-Street Clean-up of Hopkins Street this Thursday.  We’ll be going over procedures around 9 a.m. and heading out shortly thereafter. In the past, our street clean-ups have been something like Easter egg hunts…but with trash. To find out more about how it works, check out this video from last year’s class.

In history, students are examining the motives and methods of famous explorers. It’s timely given that Oct. 14th is traditionally Columbus Day. Columbus Day is no longer celebrated (ask a Room 15 kid why), but in Oregon kids still get a day off under the title “Statewide Inservice Day”. It’s a day set aside for teachers to fulfill some of their continuing education requirements, so there’s no school this Friday, Oct. 11th.

In reading, students should be studying their play scripts. Our three plays, all focused on explorers, will be presented later in the month, Students should also be reading each night for 20 to 30 minutes from a book of choice. We’ll kick start some new Books Clubs next week.

In math students are now working on multi-column subtraction. Here’s the math homework for the week: Monday, Oct. 7th; Tuesday, Oct. 8th; Wednesday, Oct. 9th; and Thursday, Oct. 10th.  Finally, we distributed registration forms for the Sams Valley Mini-Marathon on Monday. Students will be bused to Sams Valley School on Halloween morning for the annual 3.1 mile fun run. We need the registration and $6 fee returned by the 16th at the latest.
