Math HW for Week of 1/19

Fractions are tough–there’s no doubt about it. Fourth grade math students are trying a variety of approaches designed to help them grasp basic concepts, but it is slow going. Consequently, our homework posted here is a bit tentative. If the kids struggle with a given exercise in class, the assigned homework may change. We’ll be pending an extended period on fractions now and then returning to tackle it once again in the spring. One fundamental issue bogging down many students has to do with multiplication facts. True memorization of the multiplication facts is an absolute necessity for success in all areas of math, especially fractions. “Automaticity” means students need to be able to answer any given multiplication fact problem as easily as they can spell their own names. If your child is struggling in math, make “automaticity” of the multiplication facts your primary goal.
Here are the homework sheets for this week: Tuesday, Jan. 19; Wednesday, Jan 20; Thursday, Jan. 21; Friday, Jan 22.
