Welcome to Room 15

CLICK HERE FOR “WHERE TO BEGIN ON TUESDAY”

Yeah, I know. You’re not going to actually be inside Room 15 just yet, but soon (with any luck). None-the-less, we’re planning an excellent and exciting online classroom, and once we get back to school in full, we plan on undertaking all the great stuff CPE always delivers such as the Mini Marathon (in February), the Oregon Coast Outdoor Ed program (already booked!), the Sportsmanship Floor Hockey Tourney, Running Club, and all the rest! In the meantime, Here are a few things to be aware of:

  1. School supplies: If you haven’t already bought stuff, don’t bother. All you need for now is something to write with (pens, pencils) and a couple spiral notebooks (one for history studies and one for miscellaneous activities). Aside from that you’ll need a computer with internet access. If you don’t have a computer, the school has loaner Chromebooks available. Call the office at 541-494-6500 for more info.
  2. In person small group activities: provided Jackson County meets certain guidelines, we’ll be able to meet with 9 kids at a time for an hour each week.  Students will have a chance to sign-up for a specific session soon.
  3. School starts on Tuesday, September 8: We’ll start with an interactive session at 8:30 in Google Classroom, and then we’ll have a whole class Zoom meeting at 9:30. I’ll post the invite in Classroom and send out an email to parents that morning. During the first week we’ll get kids and families up to speed on all the internet platforms we’re expected to utilize. 4. Daily Schedule (revised on 9/2/2020: My current but ever-evolving plan looks like this:
    1. 7:00 Day’s schedule posted on The Platy; kids free to do independent work.
    2. 8:30 to 9:15: interactive warm-up activity (Google Classroom)
    3. 9:30 to 10:30 (Mon/Wed) Group 1 live video instruction (Zoom); Group 2 math/science work session: (Acellus, Lexia, Mystery Science, etc.)
    4. 9:30 to 10:30 (Tue/Thu) Group 2 live video instruction (Zoom); Group 1 math/science work session: (Acellus, Lexia, Mystery Science, etc.)
    5. 9:30 to 10:30 (Fri) Whole class live video instruction (Zoom)
    6. 10:30-12:00 independent work session, history, etc: (DailyPlatypus.org) and “office hours” in which I’m available for individual assistance via Classroom and email.
    7. 12:00 to 1:00 lunch hour
    8. 1:00 to 2:00 Office hours in which I’m available for independent and small group Zoom sessions.
    9. 2:00-3:00 Prep and planning
  5. Don’t stress: whatever issues arise, we can work them out. Contact me at mack.lewis@district6.org whenever you have questions, concerns, or surprise issues. We’ll take care of them to the best of our abilities.
